Cochlear Implant Education Center at the Clerc Center (CIEC)

The Cochlear Implant Education Center (CIEC) is a unit of the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University. It is an educational resource center created in 2000 to share information about cochlear implant technology and its role in the education and lives of children who are deaf from birth through high school-aged. The CIEC has several resources, publications, and presentations on topics related to language, communication, and educational practices for children with cochlear implants which are available to professionals and families throughout the nation.

Cochlear Implants: Navigating a Forest of Information...One Tree at a Time (Clerc Center)

This document, developed through the Cochlear Implant Education Center at the Clerc Center, assists parents and educators in navigating their way through the extensive "forest" of information about cochlear implants. Information is formatted into modules on a variety of topics.  This resource is available in English and Spanish.   

Cochlear Implant Toolkit

The toolkit provides information, tips, and strategies to welcome a student with a cochlear implant into a mainstream classroom. Materials for professionals, parents, and students are available, both on-line, via DVD, and in print.

Students with Cochlear Implants: Guidelines for Educational Program Planning (Boston Children's Hospital and the Clerc Center)

This product is a comprehensive set of guidelines for professionals to use for educational planning and parent involvement regarding the design and implementation of appropriate programs and services for children using cochlear implants. Note: This product is an update to Children with Cochlear Implants Who Sign: Guidelines for Transitioning to Oral Education or a Mainstream.

VL2 Research Brief 6: Implications of Bilingual Bimodal Approaches for Children with Cochlear Implants  

This 2012 research brief, developed for Gallaudet's Visual Language Visual Learning Center (VL2), discusses research supporting approaches using both ASL and spoken English for children using cochlear implant technology.
