Spring Play: Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and Beast drink tea

Directed by MSSD Alumnus Seth Washington

In MSSD's adaptation of the classic fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, an arrogant young prince and his castle's servants fall under the spell of a wicked enchantress, who turns him into the hideous Beast until he learns to love and be loved in return. The spirited, headstrong village girl Belle enters the Beast's castle after the prince imprisons her father Maurice. With the help of his enchanted servants, Belle begins to draw the cold-hearted Beast out of his isolation.

Explore the ethereal world of dance and experience imaginative visions on stage as seen through movement, light, music, and video. Audiences will experience a myriad of dance styles-jazz, modern, ballet, funk, African, hip hop, emotional, and contact improvisation as expressed by the talented MSSD dancers and a variety of professional guest companies.

Fall 2015 Showcase: The Little Mermaid

Little Mermaid under the sea

In Hans Christian Andersen's classical children's tale, Ariel, a young mermaid who lives under the sea, longs to know about life on shore. A fierce storm causes a shipwreck, and Ariel rescues the human Prince Eric. She falls in love, "swept off her fins" by the handsome man. Her father, King Triton, wants her to stay at home. Ariel turns to the Wicked Sea Witch to help her transform into a human. With the support of her friends Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle, Ariel embarks on an adventure to find out if she belongs to the sea or to the land.
